Making my own baby food

Y'all, it is so easy! And I love when I can give Rody whole, natural food! I made sweet potatoes last night with no additives and it was delicious.
All I did was peel them, cube them, put in some water and boil for about 30 minutes. Then, into the blender to puree...I added some of the juice that it was cooked in. Then, I froze them in 2 oz. servings using an ice cube tray.

I highly recommend this! I've made my own pears, bananas, and avacodo like this as well..

any more ideas of what I could make at home?

thanks!

hey katie! i did this to and it was great. get little pyrex muffin tray things (the flexible ones) and freeze it. it saves so much $$!!
three great things: sweet potatoes and butternut squash and acorn squash. all you gotta do is cut them in half (scoop out stuff from the squash, but a bit of water in a 13x9 pan, and bake for 30-hour (depending on how much you do - jus cook til soft. then just scoop out and serve! it's already soft! you can puree if you want to make even smoother...

check out this site... it's great for all kinds of food and says when it's best to serve what...

tells you best way to cook peas, grean beans, etc...

All of those things are great! If you are okay with using frozen veggies then green peas, green beans, corn, broccoli (gas included) fresh carrots, fresh apples, pretty much anything, are also great. I have found that a hand mixer is the best route. One like you would use to make a shake. They have different attachments and the veggies get so smooth. Have fun! Hope you are doing well. Love, Erin

Hey girl! I made my own baby food also and loved that I could feed my babies wholesome foods with no perservatives. Check out the book - Super Baby Foods. It has some great ideas. I think I have my book and can send it your way. Just let me know!

Katie...I do a ton of different combinations of homemade baby food. Now that Elizabeth is older I add protein(cooked eggs, browned turkey burger, even some leftover steak) and starches (pasta, rice) to veggies. We can talk details later. Favorite fruits are berry/banana, strawberry/banana, peach/plum/apple and favorite veggies are sweet potatoes, sqaush, peas.

I did this too! I tried all sorts of combinations and once we got through veggies I started adding meat (chicken, lamb, etc). Javan's fave combo was grilled lamb chops and butternut! I also pureed whatever we had for dinner and he ate it. wholesomebabyfood is a great site.

There are so many combinations that you can make. I wish I did this with the boys, but I didn't. But you can mix anything together. And when he starts eating meats, you can make it along with your meal. Boil his chicken and mix it with carrots or green beans. Peas are very popular and very GREEN! You can make what he likes and not worry about what is in it.
You are such a good mommy, I knew you would be!
