This will be a short blog, and unfortunately will not contain any pictures. I will post pictures soon of Randy's parent's visit last weekend and our baby room...which is almost finished! So, the realization that we have about 3 Saturdays left to sleep in is really sinking in. It is jut so crazy how life will change. Randy and I are trying to enjoy the quiet moments together now and also trying to go out to eat as much as possible!
Funny story...never bring a hungry, pregnant woman to the grocery store with you. Always, always, always have her eat first...because pregnant women and pastries DO NOT mix...not a good idea. And I don't really eat pastries. But, last week we went shopping at the local Bi-Lo and the first section you hit is the pastry section. I wanted everything...I mean everything. It was bad. We ended up not getting any fresh pastries, but decided upon little debbie snack cakes, nutter butters, and oreos. I opened up the oatmeal cream pies before we left the store. And, again, I don't eat Oatmeal cream pies! I guess I was also not feeling so bad because I had been to the doctor and actually lost a pound instead of gained a pound...bad thing to know for a pregnant woman!
Randy just laughs at me because of my ferocious appetite. I do really try to keep it under control most days and try to eat healthy. However, last Thursday night I was in rare form. Can any pregnant women relate???

Preparations and Atlanta Baby Shower
My mom came into town for two days to help Randy and I get the baby's room together. I was so thankful for her help because it was a little overwhelming to get started. We were able to get things organized, buy a crib mattress, get the crib set up, put away clothes, etc. And--we had a good time! Here is a picture of her in front of our armoir.
While we were busy working on the room, Randy was busy putting together all the baby equipment. Below, you can see he is hard at work putting together the pack-n-play that his parents got for us. It is amazing all the little trinkets that come with things these days...my mom was amazed!
On Saturday, it was off to Atlanta for a baby shower thrown by my two best buds, Laurin and Peyton. It was so much fun! We had it at Peyton's house and a great group was able to attend. Friends from high school, friends from college, and friends from my parent's church all attended. Below is a picture of Laurin, me, and Peyton.
It was so great to see old friends from high school! Below you see Erin, Beth, Me (holding Carly) and Liz. It was so much fun to catch up with everyone!

33 weeks and "nesting"
We were in Greenville, SC this past weekend for a baby shower. It was a great time! My mom actually got to drive up from Jefferson, so it was really good to have her there as well. We were really overwhlemed with all of the wonderful gifts that friends and family graciously gave to us. The Lord is so good! He is providing everything we need and so much more.
The last two nights (Monday and Tuesday) we've spent trying to get the baby room together. Randy painted the room and cleaned the carpets on Monday night. He then cleaned the rest of the carpets in the apartment today! He also put the crib together last night--was up until 3 or 4 AM working on thing...what a wonderful husband! Needless to say, we are making progress, but we still have a lot of organizing and upacking of baby items to go!
Here is the baby room as of now. We painted antique white since we don't know if we will be in this apartment for long--and then we won't have to paint it again when we move. It is sort of the guest room/baby room!
I'm looking pretty rough in this picture. I just got home from work and only got 4 hours sleep last night, so bear with me! I am standing next to the crib filled with gifts from the shower!
This is our salvation army steal! We got this for $100--it is a solid piece of furniture and we are using it for the baby's stuff right now. Randy and I sanded it down in October and painted it black...I love it!

Pregnant and larger than life (literally!)
Well, it is Friday evening and Randy and I have been working the last several hours on cleaning the apartment and trying to get things organized. I am starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel, but it still seems overwhelming at times. I went to the doctor on Thursday and it was pretty routine. Pee in a cup, get on the scale (uuhh), check your blood pressure, and listen to the baby (which I love!). I have another appointment in 2 weeks. I will be 33 weeks then...it is slowly approaching. So, here are a few pics of New Years and my belly at 30 weeks!
Here is a New Years Eve shot. We have sort of made this a tradition- getting together at my parent's home with Peyton and Ian, Laurin, and Randy and me. We had a good time!

Wow...this is hard to believe it is me. This is my belly at 30 weeks (which was 2 weeks ago...so it has grown again). I am putting on cocoa butter everyday to try to ward off the stretch marks!
I'm still trying to wear my size L t-shirts...and I look like this in them!

Things I learned at Child Birth Education Class
Okay...I promise I will post some recent pictures this week. Basketball ended on Friday, so I now actually have some time in the evenings to do things other than eat and sleep! My belly looks really different than the 26 weeks picture and baby boy is active. It is so much fun to feel him move and kick and roll...whatever it is that he does in there. He has this little personality and I just can't wait to meet him!
So, Randy and I went to an all day child birth education class on Saturday. We opted for the 1 day session because of our schedules. It was really good. We learned about the stages of labor, the different drugs that will be offered to me..and to Randy :), how to handle a newborn (the video "Happiest kid on the block"), coping techniques for labor and labor positions, breastfeeding, and a whole lot more.
Here are some things that stick out from the day:
1) Initial labor can be really long...Randy couldn't believe that it could be like 30 hours before you actually go to the hospitial. Good thing we have a birthing ball at home and we also learned different pressure points that Randy can trigger on me to help me "cope". We went through some fun exercises where I learned that I definitely DO NOT want Randy to ask me questions as I go through a contraction, but touch without words is nice :). And as he put it, he thinks I may need somebody else in there with me besides him b/c he doesn't know if he can do massage, etc for 36 hours all by himself...I'm hoping my doula sisters, Molly and Maggie, will be available! We also learned how to accurately time contractions and figure out how far apart they were...this is a good thing
2) I want to go natural. I guess it is the athlete in me and women have been doing it for years! When I set my mind to an athletic goal, like running a 1/2 marathon last year, I finish it no matter what. I am hoping this takes over during labor. I must learn to focus and breath...Lamaze class here I come
3) Breastfeeding is wonderful. And unless you have a tumor on your pituitary gland, you will produce breast milk. I kept hearing about how all these women want to breastfeed, but just don't producde milk. I learned that this just doesn't happen. Breastfeeding takes work and dedication and is not easy. Many women just give up too easily...I am determined, but realize it will probably be harder than I think. And, if you adopt a baby, you can breastfeed! (If you want more info on this, just email me).
4) We talked about our biggest fears concerning child birth...and it was good to discuss those. I continually pray for the health of our baby and know that the Lord is the life sustainer. I have a hard time when I cannot control things (but when are we ever in control??), so this is definitely a trust issue with me.

Oh, the weather outside is freightful?
Merry Christmas everyone! We are going through a little bit of a warming trend in Tennessee. It is actually supposed to be around 75 degrees the next couple of days. Now, I love the warm days as much as the rest, but when it is supposed to be cold, then I want it cold! (Especially beging pregnant...these weather fluctuations do not help my skin!)
Anyways, I am going to post just a short one today. Randy and I have have to download some recent pics...many of which are of my increasingly large belly! I have been feeling wonderful lately! I am right at 26 weeks now, so like 14 weeks to go! I can't believe it...I'm sure it will slow down come January, but right now I am enjoying the fast pace of the holidays, work, and coaching.
So, come back soon and hopefully I will have some updated pictures for you to look at.

Cooler Fall Days
Okay. I'm not sure that anyone ever really reads this blog, but I will write anyways! Maybe one day I will really advertise it to my friends and family so they can read it more frequently, but until then I blog only occasionally.
Life is very busy. Since basketball started officially this week, I do not get home until 6 pm at night- which doesn't leave much Randy and Katie time (so sad). It is hard, but Randy is doing more laundry and cooking more dinners than ever! We had our big ultrasound on Wednesday...here is the news.
First off, the ultrasound lady or technician must not have been in a great mood. It kind of dampered the whole experience, but I'll give her the benefit of the doubt and saying she was having a bad day--hey, I'm a teacher, I know what it is like to have a bad day! Anyways, this is Randy's first appointment that he has been to...everything is so new. The baby is looking good! We saw the spine, all the ribs, the head, the heart, the femur..and then the baby boy parts! Just wide open right there for us to see! I was so excited...and Randy even more! We would have been happy with whatever God blessed us with, but there is something about having that baby boy first that made us just light up! Randy needed some more convincing that our baby was actually a boy, so he showed the picture to the doctor who so affectionately told us that he was definitely a boy- no question about it- you can bet on it in Vegas. We'll see! :)
I've been feeling the baby move more regularly this last week. It is the craziest thing! I feel more of the kicks or punches or elbows, but I actually felt it inside me and on my hand the other night and it was so amazing! I just couldn't believe it. I actually woke up last night and the baby was moving...it is thrilling for now, but if these wake up calls happen more frequently, Junior and I may need to talk! :) I'm sure the baby is just preparing me for when he does come into the world and will need those 3 am feedings...Oh, help me Lord!
Today we enjoy a day of rest at HOME (yeah!) and tomorrow Laurin and Peyton come so we can drive to Elijay, Ga for our annual apple picking time!

Fall Break
Well, Randy and I just got back from 4 days of fall break. Yes, I still get to enjoy such things since I am a teacher. We met up with my sister Molly and her 3 kids and my mom at my parent's mountain place in Cashiers, NC. We had a blast! The weather was great, we hiked everyday, and we just enjoyed each other's company. A funny thing: my nephew, Karson, I always have something funny to say about him (or profound...). We were asking him if he wanted to be a football player (you know, as in play football), and he thought and said "nah, mom, I want to be a Christian". We all giggled a little inside. Molly said that was great, but that we are supposed to be a Christian no matter what we do--we can be a Christian and do other things. Karson pondered and said " that is very interesting..." (as he is sucking a sucker sitting on Uncle Randy's lap). So, Molly asked him, since he can be a Christian AND something else, what he would like to do. He nonchalantly said "play basketball". So, there you have it, folks! Wisdom from a 5 year old.
I want it to be my passion to not only be a Christian in faith, but in word and deed in my life as well. I want that fact to permeate everything I do. I am definitely working on this--and marriage definitely helps (props to all you married people out there!), but nonetheless, it is my desire.
I will post some pics just as soon as I get around to it.

September update
Hey friends and family!
It has been a while since the last update. Life has gotten busy. Randy has started school again and is working on all his papers and keeping up with his reading. Katie is full swing in the school year and glad that she is in her 2nd trimester of pregnancy! We can find out the sex of the baby in 1 month, but we are not sure if we're going to yet (big decision!).
